SUMMARY OF POSITION: Under administrative direction of the court and in accordance with the American Psychological Association Specialty Guidelines for Forensic Psychologists and the State of New Mexico Board of Psychologist Associates Code of Conduct, the successful candidate is a licensed Psychologist Associate working under the direction of a licensed Psychologist, and is limited to performing psychological assessment tasks under close supervision of a licensed psychologist commensurate with demonstrated training. Findings, whether through initial screening or full competency evaluation will belong to the court and shall be distributed as determined by the court. This position will not engage in rendering opinions solely for the defense or prosecution. Competency evaluations are to be conducted and completed objectively and impartially on behalf of the Court. The Forensic Evaluations prepared by the successful candidate for this position shall comply with and be in accordance with the State of New Mexico’s Interagency Behavioral Health Service Requirements and Utilization Guidelines, including but not limited to CPT Code 99499, New Mexico State statutes, national professional standards and applicable court rules and law. The successful candidate should have demonstrated knowledge of clinical conditions that affect competency to stand trial and an understanding of relevant New Mexico State statutes code and clinical-legal criteria for persons found incompetent to stand trial.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or other mental health related field; 40 hours of basic mediation training (or to be completed within six months from the date of hire), and 20 hours of family mediation training (or to be completed within the first year from date of hire).
  • Education Substitution: None
  • LICENSURE: Must possess and maintain license to practice in the State of New Mexico as a Licensed Professional Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LPCC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or licensed Clinical or Counseling Psychologist.
  • EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years’ experience in a clinical setting, of which at least two (2) years’ experience in conducting forensic evaluations.
  • Experience Substitution: A licensed PhD in Psychology, Counseling or other mental health related field may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
  • OTHER: Completion of a post-offer background check may be required. Completion of state Defensive Driving Training and valid New Mexico driver’s license may be required.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The following functions are representative of the work environment and physical demands an employee may expect to encounter in performing tasks assigned to this job. Work is performed in an office, field, jail, or court setting. The employee is expected to be punctual and to adhere to assigned work schedule. The employee must regularly interact positively with coworkers, clients and the public; work under severe time constraints and meet multiple demands from several people. The work requires prolonged use of computers, repetitious hand, arm and finger motions as well as manual/finger dexterity. May also be required to move, pull, lift and/or carry up to twenty five (25) pounds; work overtime and/or flexible hours, weekends, and holidays; and may be exposed to fluctuating outdoor and building temperatures. The employee may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may be exposed to hostile or violent situations that may arise when dealing with individuals involved in court cases, disturbing or hazardous court exhibits and contagious health conditions. Travel may be required. A valid driver’s license may be required.
  • BENEFITS* Leave - Annual and sick leave are accrued by regular, full-time employees at the rate of 4.62 hours annual and 3.69 hours sick leave, per bi-weekly pay period. A total of ten paid holidays per calendar year. Public Employees' Retirement Association Employees of affiliated public employers are required to become members of the P.E.R.A. as a condition of their employment. The contribution amount is 8.92 percent of your gross bi-weekly earnings. Voluntary retirement is attained with 30 or more years of credited service, at any age. *All benefits are subject to change.
